Abstract <p>Terminological issues related to the assessment of the quality of hierarchical classifiers of fields of science are considered. The main quality metrics for automatic classifiers used in machine learning are listed. A comprehensive approach to assessing the quality of hierarchical classifiers of fields of science is proposed, considering both formal and substantive criteria. A methodology based on an integrated approach has been developed for comparing hierarchical classifiers of fields of science according to an integral quality rating indicator.</p>
