Abstract <p>The study was conducted to establish optimal doses of lime for long-term periodic use on sod-podzolic light loamy soil. The field experiment was carried out in grain–grass crop rotation: barley with undersowing of clover and timothy, perennial grasses of the first and second year (of use). A comparison of the average yields of barley grain and perennial grass hay over 3 years of the experiment in variants with one-time and periodic application showed benefits of periodic liming at a dose of 1 Hh (based on the soil hydrolytic acidity). In the variant with periodic introduction of lime at 1.0 Hh, the acidity is significantly lower than in control and in variants with doses of 0.5 and 0.25 Hh, while the latter two differ in acidity insignificantly. Periodic liming led to a significant decrease in Al<sup>3+</sup>, Fe, and Mn in the soil. Additionally, an appreciable increase in S and V and a decrease in Hh were recorded. No substantial changes were established in the content of phosphorus, potassium, and humus in response to periodic application of lime. Studies have shown that a dose of 1.0 Hh is the optimal dose of lime with its periodic application.</p>
