Abstract <p>The study aims to map and analyse marble deposits in eastern Afghanistan, particularly in Kunar province, using remote sensing, field data and laboratory techniques to assess their spatial location, physical, mechanical, and compositional properties. This provides insights for their potential practical applications, economical value and comparison with similar deposits globally. The Marble rocks in the study area have been mapped through Landsat 8 OLI data using band combination, band ratio, and principal component analysis (PCA). About 22 marble and host rocks samples were collected from the area for the lab analysis. The collected samples were processed and analysed using different analytical methods. X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) was employed to analyse the chemical composition, while petrographic observations were conducted to examine the mineral composition. Additionally, various physical and mechanical tests were performed to evaluate the uniaxial and triaxial compressive strength, specific gravity, water absorption, durability index, and point load strength index of the marble samples. The results from these analyses were interpreted and compared globally using standards such as ASTM, BS, ISRM, and AASHTO. Petrographic analysis of the Kunar marble samples indicates a high percentage of mineral calcite, with nearly 99% calcite present in the studied marble samples. XRF analysis was conducted to elucidate the chemical composition of the marble and its hosted rock samples. The XRF results confirmed the petrographic findings, revealing high calcium content in the analysed marble samples with &lt;0.5% of the remaining elements. The physical-mechanical results confirmed that the Kunar marbles possess higher&#xa0;resistivity compared to standard values. The results indicate that Kunar marbles have mono-mineralic composition with high percentage of calcite with high consistency against any type of applied pressure. The marble is predominantly white, making it highly suitable for use as a dimension stone in various construction and decoration related applications.</p>
