Abstract

The conditions for excitation and the possibilities of effective control of two coupled chiral optical Tamm states arising at the boundaries of a cholesteric liquid crystal interfaced with polarization-preserving anisotropic mirrors are investigated. Using numerical modeling, it is shown that varying the parameters makes it possible to control the magnitude of the transmission coefficient of the structure, the tuning of spectral characteristics, as well as the profile of the local field intensity. The polarization of the incident light significantly influences the efficiency of state excitation. It is demonstrated that the hybrid mode of the two chiral optical Tamm states smoothly transforms into a single Fabry–Pérot-type mode as the coupling between them increases.
