Abstract

The Struve Astronomy Olympiad represents a critical initiative in nurturing young talent in astronomy and astrophysics. Designed for students in grades 7–8, this competition fills a gap by providing early exposure to rigorous scientific challenges before participants become eligible for senior Olympiads. The Olympiad not only tests theoretical and practical knowledge but also fosters a deeper appreciation for astronomy among schoolchildren. Its structure—featuring regionally accessible stages and tasks aligned with modern astrophysical research—aims to democratize opportunities for young enthusiasts across Russia. Notably, winners and prizewinners of the Struve Olympiad consistently demonstrate exceptional performance in subsequent finals and other intellectual competitions, underscoring its role as an early pathway for cultivating future scientists. This article presents the analysis of the Olympiad’s organization, participant dynamics, and educational impact, highlighting its growing influence on astronomy education in Russia.
