Abstract <p>We use the reddening-free <InlineEquation ID="IEq1"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(Q\)</EquationSource> <!--BPhysMGU2570123Golovatskaya-m1--> </InlineEquation> index <InlineEquation ID="IEq2"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(Q_{u-g,g-r}=(u-g)-2.099(g-r)\)</EquationSource> <!--BPhysMGU2570123Golovatskaya-m2--> </InlineEquation> to photometrically identify OB-stars in the SkyMapper catalog to retrieve 474 509 candidate OB stars spanning more than half of the Galactic equator strip (<InlineEquation ID="IEq3"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(|b|&lt;5^{\circ}\)</EquationSource> <!--BPhysMGU2570123Golovatskaya-m3--> </InlineEquation>) with a gap in the longitude interval <InlineEquation ID="IEq4"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(50&lt;l&lt;200\)</EquationSource> <!--BPhysMGU2570123Golovatskaya-m4--> </InlineEquation>. A comparison with previously identified OB-associations suggests the presence of potential new, hitherto unknown star groups in the southern sky. An analysis of the dependence of the height <InlineEquation ID="IEq5"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(z\)</EquationSource> <!--BPhysMGU2570123Golovatskaya-m5--> </InlineEquation> above the Galactic midplane on <InlineEquation ID="IEq6"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(Q\)</EquationSource> <!--BPhysMGU2570123Golovatskaya-m6--> </InlineEquation>-index confirms that our candidate OB stars reside predominantly in the thin disk.</p>

Abstract

We use the reddening-free \(Q\) index \(Q_{u-g,g-r}=(u-g)-2.099(g-r)\) to photometrically identify OB-stars in the SkyMapper catalog to retrieve 474 509 candidate OB stars spanning more than half of the Galactic equator strip ( \(|b|<5^{\circ}\) ) with a gap in the longitude interval \(50<l<200\) . A comparison with previously identified OB-associations suggests the presence of potential new, hitherto unknown star groups in the southern sky. An analysis of the dependence of the height \(z\) above the Galactic midplane on \(Q\) -index confirms that our candidate OB stars reside predominantly in the thin disk.
