Effect of the silver nanoparticles concentration on the antimicrobial properties of bioplastics
摘要
To mitigate plastic pollution and have greater durability in packaged products that are susceptible to microbial attacks, the search for an optimal combination of biopolymers based on starch and silver nanoparticles is discussed. The silver nanoparticles were synthesized using sodium citrate as a stabilizer and sodium borohydride as a reducing agent, and the starch was extracted from ipomoea batata. The effect of the concentration of silver nanoparticles from 0.5, 1, 10, 50, 80, and 100 ppm is studied with respect to the antimicrobial properties of the films in two microorganisms, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The first characterization of the materials was done by means of UV–Vis spectroscopy where the size of the silver nanoparticles was confirmed through the wavelength of the absorption peak. The size and structure of the starch and nanoparticles were studied by scanning electron microscopy and the antimicrobial properties by using standard disk diffusion methods.
