摘要

This study focuses on the first stage of a two-stage process for selective metal removal, specifically targeting manganese (Mn) from an aqueous solution containing manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), and zinc (Zn) ions using ozone (O₃) as an oxidant. Three ozone recirculation configurations were evaluated in a batch reactor to optimize manganese removal while preventing cobalt and zinc precipitation by maintaining an acidic pH. Results indicated that ozone significantly enhanced manganese removal, with the third configuration achieving about approximately 100% removal compared to 64% and 77% for configurations 1 and 2, respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the manganese oxide precipitate initially had low crystallinity but converted to crystalline Mn₃O₄ after thermal treatment at 650 °C. This study highlights the effectiveness of ozone recycling in improving manganese removal and reducing ozone consumption in aqueous solutions with cobalt and zinc ions.
