摘要

This study presents novel self-reinforcing composites inspired by environmentally acceptable dental adhesive formulations for applications including pavements. The polymer in the composite readily polymerizes under visible light allowing for rapid and efficient processing. Upon submersion in water, the polymer demonstrates self-reinforcement driven by hydrolysis and polycondensation of alkoxysilyl functional groups, leading to new crosslinks formation. This mechanism also enhances interfacial adhesion with gravel and sand, resulting in modulus and tensile strength improvements of up to 58% and 70%, respectively. With self-reinforcing properties and rapid visible light curing, this composite offers high potential for sustainable infrastructure applications, particularly in humid environments.
