What can studies of the pair-distribution functions (PDF) contribute to our knowledge about UO2?
摘要
Uranium dioxide has been studied for 70 years but still has some poorly understood properties. We present our last results using neutron total-scattering methods that evidence local deviations from average structure in UO2 Pair-Distribution Function (PDF). At high temperature, this deviation appears as a decreasing of the UO distance with temperature, which we interpret as a phonon-induced dynamic distortion of uranium’s local environment. At low temperature, this deviation takes place in UO2 magnetic order above the magnetic transition, which is still under study.
