<p>This article addresses innovative manufacturing, circular economy, and resource and energy efficiency to reduce CO<sub>2</sub> emissions in the ceramics sector using the UK as an exemplar. A comprehensive action plan is proposed, that if implemented would cut emissions in line with net zero 2050 with commensurate energy and cost savings. The plan demonstrates methods to improve heat recovery, reuse of waste and enhanced product yield through digitisation and illustrates novel low-energy manufacturing methods. The use of supply chain, life cycle and technoeconomic assessment is emphasised to ensure economic, environmental and societal sustainability.</p> Graphical abstract <p></p>
