A grounded theory approach to blockchain smart contracts in cybersecurity and it adoption
摘要
This study utilizes grounded theory to investigate IT professionals’ adoption of blockchain-enabled smart contracts to maintain data integrity. Through in-depth interviews, we developed a model to explain the adoption of blockchain technology within organizations. Our model captures the ongoing evaluative and decision-making processes that IT professionals engage in as they attempt to make sense of a new and rapidly changing technology in order to determine its suitability for their organizations. We paid particular attention to the pivotal role that the notion of “data integrity” plays in these decisions. The study reveals that blockchain adoption is not a linear process but a dynamic journey characterized by continuous learning and adaptation. It underscores the importance of collaborative decision-making and the need for a cultural shift within organizations to realize blockchain’s potential fully. By bridging the gap between technological possibilities and organizational realities, the Dynamic Interplay Model of Blockchain Adoption (DIMBA) offers a comprehensive framework that enhances our theoretical understanding of technology adoption. Furthermore, this study offers organizations attempting to adopt blockchain technology a valuable guide to bolstering cybersecurity. This study contributes both to the academic discourse on blockchain adoption and offers actionable insights for IT professionals and organizations navigating the complexities of this emerging technology.
