摘要

Advancing digitalization and the emergence of disruptive technologies require continuous training of the workforce, where high dropout rates are a major challenge. This article examines the design of a Virtual Learning Companion. This artificial intelligence-based assistant can serve as a mentor, tutor and organizer to address problems such as learner motivation and time management. As part of the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with project managers and educators from various institutions in order to refine the design of the Virtual Learning Companion and determine its solution potential in regular operation from multiple perspectives. The results indicate that the Virtual Learning Companion effectively addresses individual needs and improves learner engagement and retention by providing 24/7 support and reducing barriers to asking questions. In addition, the study discusses the roles of Virtual Learning Companions in supporting students. The integration of Virtual Learning Companions into existing learning management systems and the adaptation to institutional and user-specific needs are identified as crucial for the success of Virtual Learning Companions in regular operation. For the Virtual Learning Companion to fulfill its function as a motivator, students must be willing to use it. The article provides tips for successful implementation.
