<p>The tension between the need for mobility in modern societies and the requirements for quality of life, climate protection, and safety is to be addressed by a&#xa0;transformation in the form of a&#xa0;mobility transformation (“Mobilitätswende”). Digital change through modern IT-based solutions is a&#xa0;key component in efficient networking and coordinating players in the mobility system. Innovative technologies help to coordinate supply and demand and support the provision of mobility services. In this article, we provide an introduction to networked mobility. The technical foundations, the players involved, and the main applications are presented. The article closes with a&#xa0;brief discussion of still open challenges and socio-political implications.</p>
