<p>Intelligent traffic management, a&#xa0;sub-area of smart cities, uses information technology to address problems such as congestion in cities. Strategies include data-driven applications to improve traffic efficiency. Local companies are key stakeholders in smart cities, so this paper explores their perspectives and requirements for intelligent traffic management applications. To this end, we conducted semi-structured interviews with various key companies in the medium-sized city of Wetzlar and used qualitative content analysis to derive key insights. The paper summarizes and describes the five core issues concerning the companies: congestion and its impact on the supply chain, the importance of employee punctuality, company networks and the resulting location advantage, rescue safety considerations, and communication and support from municipalities. Furthermore, based on the perspectives of the interviewed companies, we summarize a&#xa0;set of requirements in three areas for intelligent traffic management applications: the type of information, the quality of information, and the output channels or interfaces. We demonstrate that gaining an understanding of companies and their requirements is a&#xa0;vital first step in developing smart transportation management applications that meet their needs. Our findings shed light on key stakeholder engagement with smart cities, while providing local authorities and urban planners with practical guidance. Our study paves the way for smarter, more responsive traffic management solutions that will benefit industrial operations and urban living conditions alike.</p>
