<p>With the expansion of renewable energies and the market ramp-up of electromobility, new energy industry challenges and requirements of different user groups are emerging in the area of private and semi-public charging infrastructure. In order to solve current challenges in the area of charging infrastructure, such as limited availability or inflexibility in the use of renewable energy sources, the integration of digital technologies is essential. Digital platforms as modular software architectures for the operation of applications for intelligent charging processes and advanced analyses of energy consumption and generation data can make a&#xa0;contribution to grid stability. Against this background, this paper presents the concept of an IoT platform for charging stations with an integrated service store for the flexible expansion of functionalities by third-party providers. Based on the Action Design Research approach, three expert workshops were conducted to identify key functionalities and boundary resources. The results show that a&#xa0;successful IoT platform for charging stations requires standardized interfaces, clear governance structures and balanced ecosystem management. The integration of IoT technologies with a&#xa0;manufacturer-independent service store enables innovative business models and better user centricity. At the same time, challenges in the areas of data security, interoperability and legal frameworks were identified. The work contributes to an understanding of the technical and organizational requirements for IoT platforms in the context of connected electromobility and their implementation. The findings are relevant for platform operators as well as for developers of digital services and charging station manufacturers.</p>
