Background <p>There are limited studies reporting the outcome for canine lymphoma in Australia. Australia’s geographical isolation, quarantine restrictions, and potential population differences might influence the outcomes and prognostic factors for this disease.</p> Methods <p>Information from confirmed canine lymphoma cases from two referral centres included findings at presentation, treatments used, and outcomes is presented. The progression free and overall survival times (PFST and OST) were calculated and multivariate statistical analyses used to identify prognostic variables.</p> Results <p>There were 1366 cases of lymphoma identified of which 542 dogs with nodal or multicentric disease were treated with a CHOP-based protocol. The overall response rate was 87.5%, with a median PFST of 200 days (95% CI: 177–223) and median OST of 252 days (95% CI: 221–283). The only consistent prognostic factor was the response to initial therapy, and outcome variations were noted between the different subgroups of lymphoma types. The hospital where treatment was given, appetite, the inclusion of prednisolone in the combination protocol, and breed were identified as independent novel or rarely reported prognostic variables.</p> Conclusions <p>The results showed that Australian canine lymphoma outcomes fell into the range reported from Europe and North America, though at the lower end of the range. The lack of substantial difference would allow information from international studies to be relevant to Australian dogs, and the reverse. The effects of the use of glucocorticoids within combination protocols requires ongoing research. For multicentre studies, the hospital needs to be considered as a variable.</p>
