<p>This systematic literature review examines the use of the emergent concept of regional digital transformation by analysing 62 peer-reviewed research articles that employ this term. The findings provide significant insights, revealing that the concept exists in the literature, is being used with increasing frequency, but as a working concept and not as a theoretical construction, and is applied inconsistently across contexts. The results are organised into four principal themes: (1) the association with geographical areas characterised by specific attributes; (2) the strong linkage to regional innovation; (3) the employment of the term in measurement processes; and (4) the connection to state policies, including digital policies, strategies, or programmes. The review also shows that digital transformation processes within a particular region are highly variable, contingent upon regional context. Furthermore, a bibliometric analysis was conducted to elucidate term correlations and to clarify the evolution of the concept. The results indicate a robust correlation among the terms digital transformation, development, effect, and region in relation to regional digital transformation.</p>
