Purpose <p>To evaluate factors that are associated with emotional eating in adults diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).</p> Methods <p>A cross-sectional study was conducted with 151 participants aged between 18 and 59&#xa0;years, diagnosed with ADHD, and residing in a metropolitan region of Brazil. Emotional eating was assessed using the “three-factor eating questionnaire”—a reduced 21-item version.</p> Results <p>The analysis indicated that body mass index (BMI), dieting practices, marital status, and having other comorbidities significantly influence emotional eating. Findings show that for every increase of one point in BMI, the emotional eating score also increased by 1.179 points (<i>p</i> = 0.005). Participants who were or had been engaged in dieting practices showed significantly higher scores on the emotional eating scale (<i>p</i> = 0.010). Furthermore, marital status (<i>p</i> = 0.031) and having other comorbidities (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.001) were also predictors of higher emotional eating.</p> Conclusion <p>The results highlight the importance of considering factors such as BMI, dieting practices, marital status, and having other comorbidities when analyzing emotional eating in adults with ADHD. Understanding such factors can assist in developing more effective interventions for managing eating behavior in this population.</p>

Purpose
