<p>This study conducted a comprehensive review of Shanghai Jiao Tong University English Proficiency Test (SJTU-EPT), aiming to establish foundations for developing school-based English tests. The SJTU-EPT was originally developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and has since been adopted by multiple universities in China. This test review focuses exclusively on the data source collected from Southwest Jiaotong University between 2019 and 2023. The findings revealed that SJTU-EPT demonstrated scientific rigor in terms of reliability, validity, washback, difficulty, and discrimination. However, the writing part showed relatively weak discrimination and uneven difficulty over time. Addressing these aspects is essential for enhancing the test’s overall quality and usefulness for developing school-based tests.</p>
