The livability of urban environment based on the Spatial arrangement of local practice in limited space
摘要
The purpose of this paper is to examine various approaches to urban design discourses based on everyday practices in limited spaces to contribute to the discussion of sustainable urbanism. This paper investigates everyday practices in Indonesia, particularly in urban environments with limited space, as a reading of community resilience. It examines how a community in an urban environment with limited space arranges its space to conduct daily activities. In Indonesia, there are several characteristics of an urban environment with a high density that require residents to adjust the spatial arrangement to accommodate their daily activities. The purpose of this study is to uncover various spatial planning strategies in the environment of the “Gedong Sepuluh” at Bustaman in Semarang, Indonesia. Qualitative methods are used, which involve observing how occupants use their space and conducting interviews to reveal their subjectivity. The process of compiling data by cataloguing it to form a framework for interpreting the results. The findings of this paper indicate three forms of spatial arrangement of everyday practice within a limited space, depending on (1) the level of flexibility in the use of space, (2) the involvement of others, and (3) the proximity of public services. As a result of these findings, urban space programming strategies based on land limitations can be developed, which facilitates the development of flexible and sustainable urban spaces.
