摘要

Objective

To investigate the subjective sleep quality of awake adult ICU patients, analyze the relevant influencing factors, and provide evidence for developing a targeted sleep management plan.

Methods

Convenience sampling was used to select awake patients admitted to the adult ICU of a Grade A hospital in Nanjing from January 2023 to December 2023. The Richards–Campbell Sleep Questionnaire (RCSQ) was used to evaluate their previous night's sleep, focusing on dimensions including sleep depth, sleep latency, nighttime awakenings, return to sleep, and overall sleep quality. Additionally, factors like pain, disease uncertainty, and social support were examined. Univariate and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted.

Results

172 adult patients were recruited, and multiple linear regression analysis showed that sleep depth, night arousal included pain, sense of disease uncertainty, restraint, and duration of night light. Factors of return to sleep include the number of overnight visits and the duration of night lights. Factors affecting sleep quality include pain, disease uncertainty, number of night visits, constraints, and duration of night lights.

Conclusion

The perceived sleep quality of awake adult ICU patients is affected by physiological, psychological, diagnostic procedures, ICU environment, and other factors. Nursing staff should prioritize their sleep status and develop targeted interventions based on these influencing factors to improve sleep quality.
