A conceptual metacognitive mindfulness model for enhancing resilience and mental well-being among firefighters
摘要
Firefighters face significant inherent risks which leads to an increase in mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. The mental health challenges have negative impacts both on their personal health and their professional performance which results in higher staff turnover rates. This research proposes an innovative conceptual framework that may potentially enhance mental health and quality of life among firefighters. This study presents the development of the Metacognitive-Mindfulness Model of resilience, derived from a synthesis of current scientific literature, and outlines its theoretical foundations as a proposed conceptual framework intended to guide future intervention approaches. The study also explores the distinct psychological challenges that may impact mental well-being and workplace performance. This research implies the critical need to improve mental health support for firefighters through potential resilience-building methods designed for high-stress work environments. In conclusion, the present study proposes a novel and comprehensive theoretical model for firefighter mental health, representing a conceptual synthesis that has not yet undergone empirical validation. The model is hypothesized to potentially contribute to improved mental health outcomes and professional quality of life through resilience-building strategies centered on metacognition and mindfulness.
