Psychometric evaluation of the Chinese version of the Nurse-Patient Therapeutic Interaction Scale (NuPTIS): a translation and validation study
摘要
This study aims to conduct psychometric validation of the Nurse-Patient Therapeutic Interaction Scale (NuPTIS) in the Chinese context, to test its cross-cultural applicability and structural stability in the Chinese nursing environment, thereby providing a reliable measurement tool for clinical nurses’ therapeutic interaction skills.
MethodsFrom September to November 2025, a total of 826 nurses from 5 hospitals in China were recruited for the study. The Chinese version of the NuPTIS was developed using the Brislin model and cross-cultural adjustment methods, and the psychological measurement characteristics of this Chinese version of the NuPTIS were evaluated using item-total correlation, content validity, structural validity, internal consistency reliability, and test-retest reliability. Validity assessment was conducted using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).
ResultsThe Chinese version of NuPTIS consists of 20 items and includes 4 dimensions: Emotional Support and Motivation, Empathic and Clear Communication, Patient-Centered Care, and Supportive Communication Process. The content validity index (I-CVI) at the item level is 0.800-1.000, and the average content validity index (S-CVI/Ave) at the scale level is 0.975. Exploratory factor analysis extracted 4 common factors, with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 63.384%; confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the four-factor model fits well. The overall Cronbach’s coefficient of the scale is 0.903, and the Cronbach’s coefficients of the subscales range from 0.795 to 0.881. The test-retest reliability is 0.840, and the split-half reliability is 0.744.
ConclusionsThe Chinese version of the Nurse-Patient Therapeutic Interaction Scale (NuPTIS) has good reliability and validity, and is an effective tool for assessing nurses’ ability to establish therapeutic communication with patients in the context of China.
