摘要

Background

Preeclampsia is a severe hypertensive condition that may occur during pregnancy, posing significant risks to both the mother and the fetus. Educating pregnant women about this condition is essential for its recognition and the prevention of complications. This study aimed to examine the impact of educational videos about preeclampsia on pregnant women’s knowledge.

Methods

A quasi-experimental design (one group pre- & post-test) was employed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational video developed to enhance pregnant women’s basic knowledge about preeclampsia. A purposive sample of 100 pregnant women participated by completing a validated 39-item Preeclampsia Knowledge Questionnaire at three time points: prior to the educational intervention, immediately after watching the video in the antenatal clinic, and again two weeks later via WhatsApp.

Results

Pre-intervention knowledge scores indicated limited knowledge of pre-eclampsia in pregnant women. Knowledge scores significantly improved immediately after the intervention and at the two-week follow-up compared to pre-intervention levels (p < 0.001). The mean knowledge score increased from 17.40 ± 8.98 prior to the intervention to 33.00 ± 4.35 post-intervention. After two weeks, it decreased slightly to 31.89 ± 4.73.

Conclusions

These findings support the effectiveness of educational videos in enhancing pregnant women’s knowledge of preeclampsia and recommend their incorporation of educational videos into routine prenatal care. Further research is required to find out the long-term effects of utilizing educational videos for the early detection of preeclampsia in pregnant women.
