Life Cycle and Population Growth of Two Semiloopers of the Genus Anomis (Lepidoptera, Erebidae) on Four Malvaceous Plants

Two semiloopers, Anomis sabulifera, Guenée 1852 and A. flava, Fabricius, 1775 (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) are the major pests of different economic crops throughout the South East Asian countries. The stage-specific life table and population growth of A. sabulifera and A. flava on four Malvaceous crops such as white jute (Corchorus capsularis), kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus), tree cotton (Gossypium arboretum) and okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) were observed during their growing season in 2023–2024. They completed their life cycle through four metamorphic stages (egg, larva (1–5th instars), pupa and adult) and several generations were completed in a year. The population dynamics of A. sabulifera and A. flava were significantly affected by the hosts phytochemicals in terms of host suitability or susceptibility (white jute > Kenf > okra > tree cotton) which may be a guidance towards trap crop selection for management of the semiloopers. The management of A. sabulifera and A. flava can be obtained through it by sustainable pest management (SPM) strategies in near future.
