Abstract

The effect of processing with 1 and 20 pulses of an electron beam with energy of E = 300 keV, a current density of J = 3 A/cm2, and a pulse length of τ = 50 ns on the state of the carbon steel surface has been studied. It is shown that the surface processing with a pulsed electron beam leads to significant changes in the surface morphology, which increase with the number of pulses, and to the appearance of new phases and, as a result, to a change in the fine structure parameters (lattice parameter, microstresses, and size of mosaic blocks) and mechanical properties.
