摘要

Abstract—A chromium–boron mixture of atomic composition CrB2 was subjected to mechanical activation in a high-energy planetary mill for 6–40 min at a ball : material ratio of 20 : 1. No boride formation occurred during mechanical activation. During milling, roll-shaped particles are formed, and the layers of chromium in the roll-shaped Cr–B particles are thinned to the length of the diffusion path of boron into chromium. During subsequent rapid heating (~6°C/s) to a temperature of 1000°C of the mechanically activated mixture (starting with a milling duration of ~20 min), the phase composition of the mixture stabilizes and reaches the maximum content of the higher boride CrB2. Along with the CrB2 boride, which corresponds in composition to the initial batch, there is up to 20% of a mixture of CrB, Cr3B4, and B. The diffusion nature of boride formation in the chromium–boron system during subsequent rapid (~6°C/s) heating after mechanical processing is confirmed.
