Spatial Distribution and Seasonal Dynamics of Epigeic Arthropods in Vineyard Ecosystems

Epigeic arthropods are an integral part of viticultural ecosystems. Their presence and activity contribute to the nutrient cycle and the maintenance of soil quality. During the years 2021 to 2023, we monitored the impact of various forms of vineyard management on epigeic arthropod communities. In total, we recorded 39 204 individuals belonging to 22 taxa. Using multivariate analysis, we confirmed the statistically significant impact of all types of vineyard on the spatial distribution of taxa. We confirm the highest species richness in abandoned vineyards, while the highest abundance was recorded in intensive vineyards. We confirmed significant seasonal differences in abundance, with a peak in the summer months. The results point to the importance of less intensive land use to support biodiversity, which affects biomass and consequently grapevine yield.
