Abstract <p>Otolith, ear bones, acts as a potential biomarker to study the different aspects of biology and population dynamics of fish. The present study was conducted to investigate the comparative biometric relationship between body and otolith morphometrics, length-weight relationship (LWR), condition factor in striped gourami, <i>Trichogaster fasciata</i> collected from lotic (Sai River) and lentic ecosystems (Bakhira Lake). A total of 396 samples of the fish were collected from January 2021 to March 2022. Linear regression equations between otolith morphometrics and body measurements of the fish were established in the fish samples of both the ecosystems. Otolith length was found to be highly correlated with otolith weight followed by otolith width. The values of “<i>r</i><sup>2</sup>” between total body length and otolith morphometrics were positive and fitted well in regression model. No significant difference was noted between left and right otolith (<i>t</i>-test, <i>P</i> &gt; 0.05). The negative allometric growth pattern (<i>b</i> &lt; 3) were recorded in the fish samples of Sai River and Bakhira Lake. Fulton’s condition factor (K) was found to be 2.432 and 0.987 in the fish of Sai River and Bakhira Lake respectively indicating better health condition of the fish in lotic habitat. The information so gathered from such relationships would be helpful in understanding the growth potential, trophic status and feeding ecology of the fish for scientific management under aquaculture.</p>
