Abstract <p><i>Hydrocharis morsus-ranae</i> L. from Kashmir Himalaya (India) was reported from three freshwater lakes in present study and it was recorded that the species is spreading since 2016 when it was first time reported from this region. In whole South Asia, the species is currently growing only in Kashmir Himalaya and this invasive species has crossed the historical biogeographic barrier (i.e., Himalaya) and may be introduced in the adjoining areas of South-East Asia in the near future if not managed at an earliest. The present study, based on the results from species distribution modeling, has substantiated these predictions, indicating a projected expansion in the suitable habitat for the invasive species by the years 2050 and 2070 when compared to the current climatic conditions. Therefore, it is high time to initiate early detection and rapid response, the most cost-effective strategy with maximum chances of success in the management of plant invasions.</p>
