Features of the Development of the Construction Industry and Construction Enterprises in Irkutsk Oblast

The construction industry is a key economic sector, significantly influencing the socioeconomic development of regions. This article examines the development of the construction industry and construction enterprises in Irkutsk oblast. The purpose of the study is to analyze the spatiotemporal characteristics of the region’s construction development using a variety of data. The study focuses on the demographics of construction organizations in the region and housing construction as a priority area for the region. A detailed analysis of the distribution of construction organizations across the region, their ownership structures, age structure, and economic activity density has been provided. An uneven distribution of construction enterprises across the region has been revealed, with a predominant concentration in Irkutsk and Irkutsk region. Privately owned enterprises predominate, with the average age of construction organizations being 8 years. In recent years, there has been an increase in private housing construction. The main challenges include a shortage of qualified personnel, insufficient use of innovative technologies, and the need for borrowed funds.
