<p>The article presents the main directions of scientific and teaching activity of the academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences I.P. Ashmarin at the Leningrad (St. Petersburg) State University, starting with his invitation to the Department of Biochemistry in 1963 and up to his transfer to Moscow. The review also highlights further development of scientific directions, which were initiated by the brilliant ideas of Professor I.P. Ashmarin.</p>
