Optimization of Design and Characteristics of a 18-MeV Proton Cyclotron

Abstract
The new project developed by AO NIIEFA aims at creating a cost-optimized cyclotron for the production of radionuclides directly at medical centers. The cyclotron is designed to generate protons in the energy range of 12–18 MeV with an output beam current of 150 µA. The cyclotron will be equipped with an internal source of negative hydrogen ions. The median plane of the shell-type electromagnet is horizontal. The resonant system operates at the second harmonic of the ion revolution frequency, 40.68 MHz.
