Abstract

The crisis events of 2020 and 2022 have had a significant impact on the entire global economy. At the same time, there has been insufficient research into the extent to which the largest oil and gas businesses in various countries have suffered from these crisis phenomena, and the extent to which the competitiveness of oil and gas companies has changed. The study analyzed the dynamics of competitiveness of the largest Russian companies in the oil and gas industry in the period 2017–2024 in comparison with foreign analogs, dividing them according to territorial principles—North and South America, Asia, Europe. The work was carried out on the basis of a comparison of the values of indicators of technological and economic institutional conditions associated with access to technology, access to financing and the scale of company activities. The analysis identified further trends in the level of competitiveness of large domestic oil and gas businesses. Such research will ultimately allow the development of recommendations for the government and business on how to jointly strengthen the competitiveness of Russian companies and achieve technological sovereignty.
