A Hybrid Method for Compiling a Symmetrical Input–Output Table

The article studies the development of methods for compiling input–output tables, specifically: the transition to a symmetric table from resource and use tables. The relevance of the research is determined by the necessity to improve the tools for analyzing and forecasting the structural features of economic development at the national, as well as the intercountry and global levels. In domestic practice, not all known methods of such a transition are currently applied; in particular, there is no description or able results of applying the hybrid method. This article partially fills this gap by providing an overview and analysis of limitations inherent in well-known methods as well as presenting a description of the hybrid method. The algorithm and calculation results of constructing a symmetric table based on the hybrid method are described; their comparative analysis with the results of other research options is conducted, and a conclusion is drawn about the comparative advantages of the hybrid method. Based on symmetrical input–output tables compiled by various methods, the impact of global value chains (GVC) on the Russian labor market was assessed and a choice was made in favor of the hybrid method.
