Abstract <p>The wage gap between men and women is one of the most striking manifestations of gender inequality and has a direct impact on the economic development of society. The study assessed the dynamics of the wage gap between men and women in Russia for the period from 2016 to 2021 and identified the main factors influencing its formation. Based on data from the Russian Monitoring of the Economic Situation and Health of the Population of the Higher School of Economics, a weighted Oaxaca–Blinder decomposition for average wages was constructed. Differences in the impact of job tenure marital status and the presence of children under 18 are shown to be key factors widening the average wage gap between men and women. Professional and industrial gender segregation is observed: women are more likely to be specialists at the highest and middle levels of qualification, while men more often work in industries with high wages.</p>
