Abstract <p>A method is proposed for the functionalization of ferrocene by a reaction with ethyl trifluoropyruvate catalyzed by Lewis acids, leading, depending on the conditions, to ethyl 2-hydroxy-2-(ferrocen-1-yl)-3,3,3-trifluoropropanoate or diethyl 2,2ʹ-(ferrocene-1,1ʹ-diyl)bis(2-hydroxy-3,3,3-trifluoropropanoate) with yields of up to 88 and 77%, respectively.</p>
