Abstract <p>A chronic illness that is prevalent throughout the globe, hypertension is a major probability factor for cardiovascular disease. An angiotensin receptor blocker may be a better initial antihypertensive medication for patients who are resistant to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibiting agents, such as telmisartan. Telmisartan can be used either alone or in conjunction with other medications that lower blood pressure. This review covers the various synthetic methodologies used for the preparation of telmisartan and their characterization for structural elucidation.</p>
