Abstract <p>A method was developed for the synthesis of highly functionalized pyridines, 4-aroyl-2-(dimethylaminomethylene)amino-6-chloropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles, using 3-aroyl-1,1,2,2-tetracyanopropenides and the Vilsmeier reagent. The study of photophysical properties of the synthesized compounds revealed a rare type of dual-state emission in both solution and solid states.</p>
