Facile Green Synthesis of Functionalized 2-Methyl-7-(R-phenyl)-5-phenylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine Derivatives as Antimicrobial Agents

A one-pot synthetic strategy was developed for the synthesis of a series of novel polyfunctionalized 2-methyl-7-aryl-5-phenylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine derivatives in good to excellent yields via one pot multicomponent system from 5-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-amine, various aldehydes and acetone using Al2O3 nanoparticles as catalyst under ambient temperature and solvent-free conditions. Use of Al2O3 nanoparticles as an inexpensive catalyst makes the protocol more economical. Variability of functional groups, solvent-free conditions, short reaction times, easy workup, high yields, inexpensive and recyclability of the catalyst thus providing economic and environmental advantages of the present protocol. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H, 13C NMR, MS and elemental analysis. The newly synthesized compounds were tested for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. Most of the synthesized compounds showed promising antibacterial and antifungal activities when compared than that of the standard drugs.
