Abstract <p>4-(2-Phenylphenoxy)-5-nitro- and 4,5-di(2-phenylphenoxy)phthalonitriles were obtained by the reaction of 4-bromo-5-nitrophthalonitrile with 2-phenylphenol. Tetramerization of these precursors with acetates of selected divalent metals led to the synthesis of the corresponding octasubstituted phthalocyanines. Their spectral properties were investigated.</p>
