Abstract <p>The problem of sensor fault identification in continuous-time and discrete-time linear and nonlinear systems under external disturbances is studied. A solution is developed based on the reduced-order model of the original system. Relations allowing designing the observer of minimal dimension producing an exact or approximate estimate of the sensor fault are derived. The theoretical results are illustrated by an example.</p>
