Abstract

The dependence of the electric dipole polarizability on the nucleon effective mass at the surface of the nucleus has been studied in the case of the \(^{{40,48}}\) Ca isotopes. The distribution of the strength of \(E1\) transitions is calculated within the random phase approximation model based on the Skyrme-type energy density functional. The radial dependence is shown to cause an insignificant change in the strength distribution of the \(E1\) transitions. The dipole polarizability is not sensitive to the radial dependence of the nucleon effective mass.
