When Does Latent Heat Absorption Occur in Ice Melting from a Viewpoint of the Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy?

Abstract
Measurements of positron annihilation lifetime spectra were conducted in ice and in water. It was shown that the accumulation of structural defects in the solid phase, in ice, associated with the absorption of the latent heat of fusion, begins only with a slight overheating (+0.1 to +0.4°C) of the ice surface above the phase transition point. This is clearly seen from the nature of the changes in the parameters of the lifetime annihilation spectra: at subzero temperatures, parameter variations are practically absent, whereas changes become immediately noticeable when exceeding 0°C.
