Analytical Approaches to Studying the Phase of the Visibility Function

Abstract
In radio interferometric observations, the main source of information is the complex visibility function that includes the amplitude and the phase. In this paper, the dependence of the phase of the visibility function on the baseline projection is investigated when used in radio interferometry with space baselines up to six Earth diameters. An analytical expression is derived for the dependence of the phase of the visibility function on the baseline projection and direction. It is shown that for small baseline projections, this dependence is universal and is consistent with the numerical magnetohydrodynamic models for the distribution of an ideal fluid in the immediate vicinity of black holes.
