Abstract <p>The origin of the circumstellar (CS) shell of the unusual SN Ia 2020aeuh is explored using a light curve model and observational constraints. The synthesized <InlineEquation ID="IEq1"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\({}^{56}\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m1--> </InlineEquation>Ni mass (<InlineEquation ID="IEq2"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\({\approx}1\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m2--> </InlineEquation> <InlineEquation ID="IEq3"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(M_{\odot}\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m3--> </InlineEquation>), the mass of the CS shell (0.04–0.2 <InlineEquation ID="IEq4"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(M_{\odot}\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m4--> </InlineEquation>), the radius (<InlineEquation ID="IEq5"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(2\times 10^{16}\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m5--> </InlineEquation> cm), and its expansion velocity (<InlineEquation ID="IEq6"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\({\lesssim}200\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m6--> </InlineEquation> km s<InlineEquation ID="IEq7"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\({}^{-1}\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m7--> </InlineEquation>) have been estimated. The large <InlineEquation ID="IEq8"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\({}^{56}\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m8--> </InlineEquation>Ni mass and the properties of the CS shell are consistent with the scenario of a massive binary C/O white dwarf merger that was accompanied by the loss of <InlineEquation ID="IEq9"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\({\sim}0.1\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m9--> </InlineEquation> <InlineEquation ID="IEq10"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(M_{\odot}\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m10--> </InlineEquation>&#xa0;of matter. The supernova is shown to have exploded <InlineEquation ID="IEq11"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\({\gtrsim}30\)</EquationSource> <!--Letters2570045Chugai-m11--> </InlineEquation> years after the white dwarf merger.</p>

Abstract

The origin of the circumstellar (CS) shell of the unusual SN Ia 2020aeuh is explored using a light curve model and observational constraints. The synthesized \({}^{56}\) Ni mass ( \({\approx}1\) \(M_{\odot}\) ), the mass of the CS shell (0.04–0.2 \(M_{\odot}\) ), the radius ( \(2\times 10^{16}\) cm), and its expansion velocity ( \({\lesssim}200\) km s \({}^{-1}\) ) have been estimated. The large \({}^{56}\) Ni mass and the properties of the CS shell are consistent with the scenario of a massive binary C/O white dwarf merger that was accompanied by the loss of \({\sim}0.1\) \(M_{\odot}\)  of matter. The supernova is shown to have exploded \({\gtrsim}30\) years after the white dwarf merger.
