Buckling of the Cylindrical Shell Closed with the Flat Cap under External Lateral Pressure

Abstract
Buckling under uniform external pressure of a thin cylindrical shell joined at an edge with the circular plate is analyzed by the asymptotic method. Two types of buckling are considered. The axisymmetric buckling mode of the first type is localized on the surface of the plate. The buckling mode of the second type is closed to the buckling mode of the unstiffened shell and has many waves in the circumferential direction.
