Abstract <p>The warmth of wet evergreen and moist deciduous forests in Western Ghats offers incomparable habitats for Myxomycetes but it was never documented before from these forests. This preliminary study from tropical wet evergreen and moist deciduous forests of Kerala listed 42 species of Myxomycetes belonging to 23 genera, 5 orders and 9 families. Among the 9 families, the most dominant one was Physaraceae which represented 11 species. Out of 42 species documented, 20 are new to Kerala. While comparing the two ecosystems, the evergreen forests have more number of species. Myxomycetes were found attached to bark, leaves and even to plastic bottles. The collected specimens are well preserved in the Kerala Forest Research Institute Slimarium. This collection may be used for education, training and research on these groups. Since Kerala is bestowed with diverse ecosystems starting from coastal to tropical montane shola forests, a detailed long-term study of Myxomycetes will be an important addition on documenting the biodiversity of this region.</p>
