Abstract <p>The present study assessed the hepatopancreatic reserves in relation to reproduction and molt cycles in a brachyuran female crab, <i>Metopograpsus messor.</i> For the analysis, three seasons (reproduction season, reproduction-molt season and reproduction-molt inactive season) were considered. From the early ovary cycle stage (Stage 1), a significant increase in each of the organic reserves was detected until the mid-phase (Stage 3), and a subsequent decrease was noticed thereafter (from Stage 4 to Spent stage), during reproduction and reproduction-molt seasons, indicating possible mobilization of hepatopancreatic reserves to the ovary. A similar pattern of mobilization was also observed during the molting cycle as the reserves registered a significant increase from intermolt to early premolt (D1 and D2) and a gradual decline towards late premolt (D4) and postmolt as the reserves might be utilized for new exoskeleton formation. During the reproduction-molt inactive season, except for total free amino acid, all hepatopancreatic reserves (total lipid, total protein, polysaccharide fraction, oligosaccharide fraction) were at their highest level indicating that this period is exclusively dedicated to the storage of reserves to be utilized for ovary growth for the following reproduction season.</p>
